Review: ‘Nudge’

Nudge: The Final Edition: Improving Decisions About Money, Health, and the Environment by Richard Thaler and Cass R. Sunstein

Humans are flawed. Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein wrote a book about how we, as humans, choose poorly. From Anchoring to Availability Bias, we often fail to see what’s in front of us objectively. Nudge, combined with Thinking, Fast and Slow, are two great books highlighting humans’ decision-making challenges. Nudging is a way to help Humans make better decisions. Narrowing the field – limiting options helps address overchoice, and having Opt-out vs. Opt-in for Retirement plans removes choice paralysis and forces an individual to have a Retirement plan – which is better, right?

At its core, Nudge is about how we make poor decisions and how we can help Nudge individuals make the right decisions. There is absolutely a shadow side to Nudge, and it should be known that who chooses what is ‘right’ is indeed a slippery slope. Regardless, this book is a fantastic and entertaining read.
