A Beautiful Constraint: How To Transform Your Limitations Into Advantages, and Why It’s Everyone’s Business by Adam Morgan & Mark Barden

I have used this book many times to help catapult the team beyond being stuck, and it all starts with having the right mindset. It’s crucial to see Constraints as opportunities, not blockers when challenged. It’s easy to take your ball and go home when challenged. Instead, Adam Morgan and Mark Barden suggest several keys to breaking through a challenge. First, break the path of dependence (the way it’s always been done_ and start asking propelling questions – this allows you to look at a Constraint differently. Asking different questions and continually pressing can yield new solutions. In addition, “Can If” questions can move from problem to solution by reframing the question to include possible solutions – regardless of how absurd the solution may appear. There are many other tools and approaches to add, but this book is absolutely one you should have near you when stuck. It’s a great read, and it’s visually compelling.
