Daily Habits – The Key To A Growth Mindset
If you are stuck and are serious about improving, it all starts with deliberate practice and a daily routine. That’s at least according to Angela Duckworth, the author of Grit. Daily Habits are not a new concept. Logically, I think we all know that if we want to improve in an area – we have to do something about improving in that area. One book that you won’t find in a library is a book titled: Serendipitous Improvement: 10 Ways to Get to the Top by Doing Absolutely Nothing. So, if you want to improve – you have to do something.
I dedicate the first 20 minutes of my day to something other than my day job. This may not work for you, but I’ve found that learning outside the framework and context of my current work environment opens me up to more significant learning (or the potential for it). Here’s how I spend the start of every workday – you’ll notice that several of these sites offer differing perspectives on books (and very few are implementation-specific).
If you consistently fail to achieve your daily habit, enlist the help of a co-conspirator. This co-conspirator would be someone who holds you accountable for reaching your goals. They are constantly checking in on your progress to ensure that you are not slipping. If this sounds like you and you want to continue to learn more – start here.

Another habit I’m working on is reading a book an hour a day. This takes discipline, but here are a few tips from Bill Gates. (2 mins)

Wow, Matt, thank you so much for making my blog part of your daily habit — what an honor!
